Powder Coating

Contract Powder Coating, Birmingham – Metal Finishing, Pretreatment Systems, and More

A method of applying a finish to metallic surfaces without using a solvent, powder coating is a powerful, reliable and hard-wearing plating and metal finishing option. The powder itself is produced by mixing polymer granules with pigments and other ingredients, heating the mixture in an extruder, and rolling the heated substance flat before breaking into small chips and then milling those chips into a fine powder.

The powder coating is then usually sprayed onto the required surface using an electrostatic gun. The gun gives the powder an electric charge, and applies the powder to the grounded surface. The surface is then heated to melt the powder and form a hard coating. The flexibility of the powder coating process is second to none, offering a wide variety of possible colours and finishes, and capable of being applied to almost every metallic surface imaginable (and a few non-metallic surfaces besides!).

Experts in the field, Contract Powder Coating will ensure that the coating is not too thick, combining excellent jig building with our decades of experience to make certain that the coating remains as thin as possible. A powder coating is always thicker than a paint coating, and this is one of the sources of its superb durability, but it’s important on sensitive surfaces such as threads and mating components to employ a powder coating company able to apply plating and metal finishing techniques with precision. From our pretreatment systems to our superb staff, Contract Powder Coating is such a company.
